Last week we had days that got up to 50 degrees! Now for some states that may be cold but in Maine that is practically summertime. Finally seeing the sun shine through the windows gave me a newfound motivation to get some cleaning done. After a very cold winter my home feels so clogged up, if that makes any sense, and my number one goal is to make it smell fresh and clean once again. Creating this DIY shower cleaner has been life-changing!
What You’ll Need:
- Dawn Dish Soap
- Essential Oils (I used Sweet Orange & Peppermint)
- Baking Soda
- Small Funnel (I got mine here)
- A Spray Bottle
DIY Shower Cleaner
This mix is super easy and can be created from things you have lying around the house which makes it even better. In all honesty, I did not measure this out and kind of just put what I thought the portions should be. I filled the spray bottle about 3/4 the way with white vinegar, then used the funnel to put in a good amount of Dawn dish soap.
Once you have put your dish soap in choose the essential oils you would like. Not only does this counteract the scent of vinegar but also provides extra cleaning agents. I recommend adding a citrus essential oil into the mix, such as sweet orange, due to the citric acid helping break down any grime.
Close your spray bottle and shake it up! Do not add the baking soda yet or you will create a rocket effect, haha.
Get That Spotless Clean
This is where the embarrassing part comes in! My bathtub was pretty disgusting. Andrew tends to water plants in the tub and doesn’t necessarily rinse it out so it can get pretty dirty in there. After ignoring the mess for so long I knew it was time to get it done.
Take your baking soda and sprinkle it all over your bathtub and shower, put extra on the caked on spots. Then spray your cleaner mixture all over and set for a few minutes. The vinegar and baking soda create a bubbling reaction that helps lift any grime. Once it has bubbled for a bit grab a towel or sponge and begin wiping clean. The best part is the gritty texture of the baking soda makes it so you barely have to scrub at all! Then rinse away.
I was so surprised by how clean it became! It was so white and spotless definitely worth the little work I had to put in. This simple, inexpensive DIY shower cleaner will truly change your life. xo Tayla
