With winter and spring breaks literally right around the corner I’ve seen a lot of people prepping for vacation. Not me though so I am not-so-secretly jealous. Now this could mean one of two things. You are either a master packer or you could use a few tips and tricks. With today’s DIY I have a great way to pack those toiletries without the ziploc bags.
I am definitely guilty of the plastic bag method. Using it for my toothbrush, shampoo, conditioner and even my dirty clothes. Unfortunately, it’s not very sustainable. With this DIY travel wrap you can not only roll up your things in a neat package but throw it in the washer once you’re done to reuse! Plus it most likely takes up less space. So let’s get in to the tutorial!
What You’ll Need:
- Fabric Fat Quarter (You can score some cute patterns at your local Walmart)
- A hand towel, new or used.
- Sewing machine
So simple! This is basically a two ingredient DIY with things you probably have lying around the house.
DIY Travel Wrap
Cut your towel and fabric to matching lengths. Mine measured out as a 21″ x 16″. Face the “wrong” sides together and sew all sides leave a gap to turn project right side out. Once you have done this sew the perimeter to create a nice finished, hemmed look.
Fold up the bottom section about 4.5″ and sew both edges to secure. Then measure out ever couple inches and sew vertical stitches to create pockets the whole width of the wrap.
Best part about striped fabric is they are a great guide and measurement. I like to take the lazy way, haha.
Once you have created the pockets fold the top over about 2″. Sew each side to secure and/or a few inches at the top to ensure the fold stays.
Added this top fold allows all your goodies to stay in place and absorb any water without getting the rest of your luggage wet.
This last piece is optional. Finally I sewed in a ribbon to keep wrap closed. You don’t need to sew it in place but I am notorious for losing things and I know that ribbon would be gone the second I untied it.
And there you go! The perfect little toiletries travel wrap for your next big adventure.
Let me know what other necessities I should create to make traveling easier! Happy SunDIY Xo Tayla
